An Awakenining !!

I have never been as confused in writing as I am today. It’s not easy to write something about a movie which is so strong that it takes you a couple of hours to come to reality.

I could never believe that these three hours have an effect so strong. I was not perplexed watching movie like Bhagat Singh and the likes as I was today watching this movie.

This movie has a very realistic stand. People die. Die in army, navy, air force, police, border, commandos etc. But majority of time they die because of insanity of the politicians of this country. So many scams and scandals come out, so many people die. It must be pretty vivid in your memories, the recent killing of the IIM-A guy when he went for inspection of a petrol pump. Another killing was of Satyander Dubey , who was again killed for whistle blowing against the corruption taking place in Bihar. We forgot these incidences, spoke against the politicians, the government, at home, and on net and that were the end of it. But for someone, it was a loss never recoverable, someone's son; someone's brother is gone forever. This is the price those families have to pay for being honest; being true to their nation, being what is called a good citizen.

I know, it will not affect us, and why should it be? We are sitting at home, calmly watching Indo-Pak test match, we are surfing net, and we are eating pakoras...

But when something happens to us , one of our close relation, our blood relation, then we get awakened, then we feel the pinch, then we realize how helpless we are.

Rang De Basanti , had one line, which we hear often , "We have to change this country". And NDTV also has put it beautifully, "Tum Koshish toh karo , badlegaa India"( You start trying, country will change).

I am here in USA, watching this movie in a theatre here, feels for home, longes for home, for my country, for my nation. I do not want to get settled here in US, for I love my country. Even with all the corruption, the pollution and all the ills of this system, this country, I still want to be here, to be with us, to feel the pain and to enjoy with them. This is the place where I have lived and I want to die here. I will do my best to bring some good change in this country. I will put across my thoughts, my feelings, and my gratitude towards this country, because I believe in "Action speaks louder than words".

Do watch Rang De Basanti, but watch it with a purpose, with a responsibility towards your country. Remember, there were so many people who sacrificed their life to make India free. We can do something to make India better. It will not only be a tribute to those "Sons of India" but also a gift to the new generation.

Let the nation awaken.........

dekhna hai zor kitna, bazoon katil mein hai ."

hmm....interesting way of looking at the film...I somehow took similar thpguths back...the most important being..that our generation needs to take more responsibility for our actions too , if we;re demanding rights...we seem to be giving up on the country before even trying to change it..coz its too dirty for us to get in to...
and looking at the yuppie collegegoers in the first half actually hit home...coz sadly, the ones like us who can make a diff, who should be making a diff are too busy to care....

Anil:

the thoughts look good in a blog, but how do you think will you make any difference in a country that burgeoning with 'will do my own thing' type attitude? I would love to see you answer and then implement than just answer and answer (I call it hot air and no work)...I might be wrong here but prove me wrong!!

@PJ : I would need a complete post to write a reply to that. Will write it someday soon. Gosh , I am making so many promises to myself , will I remember them. I hope so, anyways , you are there to remind me.

@hiren : Thanx a lot, those were really very lovely comments.Touched my heart, deeply.

@arti : Sometimes something touches you a lot at that moment, maybe another moment it may look too trivial. but at that moment, it could take your heart away.

@MoC: As I said before, this movie is worth every penny.

@maryam : I am very confused by your comment, I didnt understand what you saw in my profile which was a mis-fit. Please be an angel and enlighten me.

watching Indo-Pak test match, we are surfing net, and we are eating pakoras... You just described the apathy that is gripping the educated class. I think the reason is because the vast majority of the country, i.e. the illiterate and ill informd makes the choices of leaders for us. Sad isn't it?

Lovely post!

hey Anil ....
the blog world is filled with the posts on the movie....

yes i did watch it over the weekend and it really took me three days to come back to the world from the movie

the stark reality shown...the dont care attitude and then the sudden outburst or the awakening as u put it when it is a dear one ...

never felt the intermission bring out two separate parts in was a continuation
though the only thing i felf was there wasn;t any remorse when they killed a first time maybe it was meant that way .....

a lovely movie all together ...
a reaity brought out on a commercial scale with great impact and success

I loved the movie but I don't think one movie can change India or awaken the masses. Its a slick well made flick with good looking actors and great direction. It is not an uprising.

And lets face it. we can all sit and praise India to the skies but we are NRIs minting money abroad because India didn't pay us enough. It is a little hypocritical to be waxing eloquent on making a difference.

@silverline : Yes I guess, we, who are the educated class of the sountry are too buys engaged in our hobbies, and other things of interest that we do not really care about the country.

@kusum : this movie was worth every penny.

@neetika : true, I understand your thoughts, but there is something like PILs etc, why are the launched , that is to stop somebody from doing a big harm to the country by modifying the law to his use. But unfortunately PIL are not so strong in India and are hadrly succesful.

@ash : yes, it was a two different world in the two half os the movie. But there was still a good flow in the movie and a gripping one.

@shikha : yes very true, ordinary people can make such impact , I think that was the key thing. Thanks a lot , you gavce me a logicla reason why this movie was great, coz it involved ordinary people.

@lalit : True, this is our country , we have to active in changing it.

@anu : i would actually not see it again for I remember most of the dialogues and shots and can review the movie in my mind itself :)

@doj : I would differ with you on this for a simple reason that brain drain has given rise/momentum to the Indian IT sector and so many other domains and the money which we earned in US m will finally be used in India(by many of us) in developing businesses. Also one movie may not cause revolution but it can ignite our souls, well that itself is a big success, coz many of us would think deep in our thoughts or atleast unconsciencely about our country and may try to do some good for our people.
