The Confused Anil

A time comes in life of every professional, more so in recent times, when he think, he need to change. He needs to do something different, something out of the boring work.
Something which can give him another lease of life. Something which gives him new challenges to look forward to.

Now, here is my case, working as a typical software engineer. I have been working in IT industry for ages (that’s what I feel :( ), so I have been with the same project, the same client and the same team and have been doing the same work for years now.

I feel I should change, but change what? I have so many options. I can change the project. I can change the client itself. I can change the location (Bangalore). I can change the company or the best I can change the industry itself. Now I am interested in two of the above, changing the location and secondly changing the industry. But am again perplexed about the latter one. If I change the industry, then what should I do? The most obvious choice is an MBA. Now the question comes, if I need to do an MBA, from where should I do it? Again the most obvious choice comes, take the CAT and get into the IIMs. But given the probability involved with getting into IIM and the amount of effort required, it seems a little distant. The other options are ISB or MBA from Stanford or Carnige Mellon or likes. But for getting into these elite foreign colleges, I need a very strong profile, which includes a very good GMAT score. Getting into ISB is easier but I am not very keen on it, for it has some negative news surrounding it.

Anyways the main point is getting out of IT industry. Yes, but when, frankly don't know!!!

But I am giving serious thoughts to it and will make some stand in a couple of months. But right now, Anil is totally confused. I hope some of you guided souls; provide me some help in sorting this puzzle of my life.

Most Embarrassing Day !!

This is a true story of my friend, a close friend indeed.

It was his first year in Infosys and he was working late night, as was the usual trend. But unfortunately, he forgot that the last cab from office was at 2am and it was already 2:45am. He had gone tired by 3am, so he thought he would retire in the dormitory for the night. Now, this was his first time at the dormitory so he didn’t know where the dormitory was, so he asked the security people and they guided him roughly to the dormitory which was upstairs somewhere .

So my friend went upstairs and found a room marked as Women Dormitory, so he searched for male dormitory , there was another dormitory close to women dormitory but it was not marked anything. He searched on the whole floor and the lights were very dim so he could not find a male dormitory , then he thought that any dormitory which is not marked as women dormitory must be a male dormitory ,s o keeping that logic in mind at night 3am , he enters the dormitory marked as only "Dormitory".

The dormitory was surprisingly completely empty. So my friend gets a good look of the dormitory and the attached bathroom and the AC's in the room. He switches on both the AC's in the room after struggling for 15min with the AC remote controls. He was wearing a formal shirt and trouser and since he has to wear the same clothes the next day, so he strips off his Trouser and Shirt and hang them in the wardrobe. Then he gets into the cozy bed setting alarm in his watch for 8am and goes for a peaceful sleep.

It is around 6:45am and someone knocks off on the door, he wakes up a little startled from his peaceful dream and finds a house keeping lady coming for cleaning the room. Since he was in his under garments, so he asks the lady to excuse him for a min. The looks on the face of the lady was of severe confusion. The lady says to my friend that you are sleeping in a Female Dormitory and there are a couple of girls already sleeping in this dormitory. He looked around and found that there were around 4 girls sleeping next to him, but very luckily none of them were awake. My friend was in a state of severe embarresment and utter confusion. He was seeing what was going to happen. He would be charged for sexual harassment and will be blacklisted by all the IT firms and probably a lawsuit will be filed against him, by either the girls who were sleeping there or the company. He was thinking that he would never be able to work in a good company and that he would not be able to get a good wife and that he would actually have nobody to sleep with. His head was spinning ad if he had heavy drinks last night and the hangover has not gone yet. But his thoughts which had run so far came back to the maid in a flick of a second. He politely said, “I didn’t know that this was a female dormitory” and he wanted to get out of it ASAP. The maid said that there were 2-3 females waiting outside to get inside the dorm after she is done with cleaning. My friend almost begged her to help him out. She looked at his, almost crying face and said, that she will go outside and he should take all his things be ready to leave in 1 mi. My friend ran fast but without noise and was ready within an amazing 30-40seconds. He opened the door slowly and found the maid talking to the girls, and then the girls left. After that he came out of the dorm and the maid asked him to leave. He left but wished her his sincere thanks for saving his life.

Even today, whenever we are chatting and that incidence comes to focus, I can see a clear embarrassment in his face. Just imagine, a software engineer working in an excellent company caught sleeping with girls, in women dormitory. It would have made the headlines in the major newspapers of Bangalore. I have a great laugh thinking of the same.
